Section 3.1: Fetching Documents from the Aji Reader Service

The primary way in which to transfer documents to Aji Reader is to use the Aji Reader Service running on your computer. In order to communicate with the Aji Reader Service, your device running Aji Reader must be on the same local (wifi) network as your computer, and the Aji Reader Service must be running (see the Aji Reader Service section above).

In Aji Reader, switch to the "Fetch" tab, and choose "Fetch from Aji Server". The Aji Reader Service running on your computer should be visible in the list of available servers:

From this screen, you can browse the contents of the folder(s) on your computer by tapping the Aji Reader Service name. This will allow you to access the shared folder(s) and to choose specific folder(s) and/or PDF document(s) to download.

Alternatively, you can tap the orange "Download" button (either here or on a specific folder or document inside the shared folder). This will have Aji Reader download either all PDF documents within the shared folder (and all subfolders) or the specific document. The Download Progress screen will then be shown:

Note that if you have a lot of PDF documents or very large PDF documents, this transfer process may take some time. In addition, it can take some time for the Aji Reader Service to process large PDF documents; you can monitor this progress in the Aji Reader Service application's status area.

If you wish, you may have Aji Reader continue transferring files "in the background" while you read documents. To do this, tap the "Hide and Continue" button. Note that Aji Reader will be doing a lot of work to transfer files, so the responsiveness of PDF reading may be adversely affected while files are being downloaded. Also note that Aji Reader must be running in order to continue the transfer! If you quit Aji Reader, your download session will be aborted.

When the download process is complete, you will also be given the option to browse directly to the newly downloaded files; this is simply a shortcut to take you to the "Browse" view where the files were downloaded.

If you add new files to a shared folder on your computer, you can simply tap the "Download" button to have Aji Reader download any new files. Files which have been previously downloaded will not be downloaded again.
